Europe has made progress in FTTH and 5G population coverage. However, it risks falling short of the EU Digital Decade target on “gigabit for everyone” by 2030 and lags its global peers in 5G coverage. Operators are making efforts to embrace innovation – though, they are under pressure to sell or separate service and innovation-related assets, while their revenue per employee is lower than that of tech companies. In result, the fundamentals of the European telco sector remain weak with significant uncertainties.
